Stephen Ministry is a lay-caring ministry designed to provide distinctly Christian care to individuals going through difficult life challenges such as grief, medical crisis, job loss, divorce and many others. It exists as an extension of pastoral care to assist in meeting the needs of the congregation. Stephen Ministry offers a proven system of training which equips congregation members to become lay caregivers known as Stephen Ministers. In this way Stephen Ministry helps fulfill the mission of Buda UMC bringing Christ’s love to those in need.
Stephen Ministers are individuals who have a passion for helping those who are hurting. They possess a strong desire to serve. A Stephen Minister walks along side someone hurting to provide emotional and spiritual support for as long as needed. Through training and supervision Stephen Ministers develop the skills to bring high quality one-on-one Christian care to hurting people thus sharing the love of Christ in a tangible way. Beginning this fall Buda UMC will offer the first Stephen Minister training course. Once a team of Stephen Ministers have completed training we will be able to offer care in February of 2027.
Stephen Ministry is a transformational experience for both those who are hurting and those who minister to them creating a more caring community within the church and beyond. Stephen Ministry equips God’s people, cares for those in need, deepens people’s faith, transforms lives and grows the Christian community. For more information contact Pam Stone.
